PLANS for 14 new homes on the outskirts of Pwllheli have been given the go-ahead despite concerns, including road safety.
At a meeting on Monday, Gwynedd Council’s Planning Committee passed the application for the development at Cae Llan, Denio which will include four affordable homes.
Including a mix of two, three and four bed properties, the plans were approved despite some reservations over highway safety.
But members were told that with the site lying within the town’s local development boundary, such considerations had already been taken into account and were judged to be acceptable by officers.
Pwllheli Town Council, on balance, had backed the development despite some members retaining concerns about the negative impact the scheme would have on the narrow roads nearby.
Similar concerns had also been raised by members of the public, amid claims that 14 homes was too many, that it represented “overdevelopment” and citing the narrowness of Allt Salem.
But committee members decided to go with the advice of officers and back the application submitted by David Halliday (James Lloyd Development Ltd).
Committee member Cllr Dilwyn Lloyd accepted local concerns but said many local people were “desperate” for affordable housing.
The plans were approved by nine members in favour, none against, and Cllr Owain Williams deciding to abstain on the basis of highlighted traffic concerns.
