A COMMUNITY group in Aberaeron, who launched a campaign to raise £20,000 for a new emergency vehicle for the town’s fire station back in March, have almost doubled their target.

The Aberaeron Town Improvements Committee kick-started their fundraising drive with a tug of war championship at Square Field in May to raise funds for a first responder vehicle the fire crew said was desperately needed.

Their target was £20,000, but when the campaign ended last week the group revealed the final tally will be £39,000 to £40,000.

Now they are drawing up plans on where to house the new Volvo.

In a letter to Aberaeron Town Council thanking them for their support the group said: “We believe a valuable asset such as this should be garaged.

“We feel it will be fully operational in the near future.”

Cllr Elizabeth Evans described the group’s achievement as “amazing” and praised the community for their “generosity” in backing the campaign.

“We had asked to see their balance sheet but that no longer applies as they have reached their target and closed their appeal,” she said.

“They effectively doubled their original target in less than a year."
