A HALL faces a hefty repair bill after thieves forced their way into the village hall, stealing a computer.
Thieves broke into Neuadd Santes Ursula hall at Llangwyryfon by throwing a large rock at a pane of reinforced glass sometime between 28 December and 4 January, stealing a laptop, iPad, and mobile phone.
The incident has left the community “shaken and upset”, Rev Terry Davis of Llangwyryfon church who discovered the break-in told the Cambrian News.
“The hall is well-used by the community, so for this to happen has left everyone quite upset, there is no doubt about that,” he said.
“They have used a large rock to smash a window to get in.
“No cash or any other valuables were there, but someone left an iPad and computer.”
Rev Davis said that police dusted for fingerprints and did a “comprehensive job”, but were not hopeful of catching the perpetrators.
“The hall is 150 yards away from the nearest house so it would have been impossible for anyone to hear even with all the noise that must have been made,” he said.
The hall is used by the Cylch Meithrin during the day from Tuesday to Friday, as well as being used by community groups in the evening such as the WI and the YFC.
The hall is also used for church services in cold weather, and Rev Davis said that the hall is still usable.
The damaged window has now been boarded up, and Rev Davis said the window will be fixed “over the next few days” and that security at the hall would not be raised in the wake of the incident.
