POLICE and schoolchildren in Ganllwyd joined forces recently to try and catch law-breaking motorists.
Police and Community Support officers from Gwynedd South Neighbourhood Policing Team paid a visit to Ysgol Ganllwyd, near Dolgellau, and carried out speed checks on the A470 road which runs through the village and alongside the local school.
On Friday, 24 March, PCSO Sandie Williams and colleague PCSO Gareth Jones carried out the checks to reassure local residents, teachers and pupils as well reminding and educating motorists about the dangers of speed.
Fortunately all motorists drove within the limits, but the visit is likely to be repeated at a later date.
Following the checks the officers visited the school and showed pupils the ‘speed guns’ as part of an awareness and road safety session.
PCSO Sandie Williams said: “Although there have been no specific complaints of speeding motorists, these awareness and road safety messages are always useful and may just prove very important to the pupils.
“They were all really enthusiastic and asked some excellent questions.
“I’m pleased to say motorists stuck to the limit, but we are likely to return to remind everyone about the potential consequences when speeding.”
Residents worried by anti-social/speeding drivers are urged to report their concerns to the Police by calling 101.
