BORTH Coastguard’s trainee ‘search and rescue puppy’ was able to practice her ordnance detection skills last week.

At 8.13am on Thursday, 29 June, Borth Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to investigate a report of possible ordnance at Borth Beach.

After searching between water’s edge and the top of the beach, nothing was found, with coastguards suspecting the ordnance had been covered by the incoming tide.

Borth coastguards returned at 6.30pm that evening to continue the search while the tide was low.

Despite not being able to find the suspected ordnance, the newest member of Borth Coastguard, 16-week-old Storm, who is training with the team with a view to becoming a fully qualified search and rescue dog, was able to get some valuable — albeit unsuccessful — practice before coastguards returned to station at 8.30pm.
