Following our coverage of the Old College redevelopment last week, the beautiful building features again this week, albeit in the background of this archive image.
The photograph has been sent to the Cambrian News by the National Library of Wales, and comes from a batch of negatives taken by the late Glynne Pickford, which were recently donated to the Aberystwyth-based library.
It shows three buses owned by Lloyd Jones Brothers of Pontrhydygroes.
The buses are identifiably outside the Old College, and the image was taken in January 1950.
The company operated out of a depot in Pontrhydygroes and during the decades before and after the Second World War operated a fleet of buses serving the needs of numerous villages in mid and north Ceredigion.
Eventually, increasing car ownership led to the demise of many of the bus routes.
The company was still involved in operating school buses during the 1970s.
Their first bus seems to have been a Ford Sun Saloon 20-seater coach in brown, registered in June 1931. Many others followed shortly afterwards.
Perhaps there are still some readers who remember travelling on Lloyd Jones Brothers buses?
