Plascrug School has raised over £2,500 so far for hospitals close to their hearts.

Pupils and staff from the Aberystwyth school raised the money with a sponsored walk. 

From 14-19 September, they collectively clocked up 128 miles in six days. This is the distance from Bristol Children's Hospital to Bronglais Hospital, and these hospitals were chosen as places donate money to due to their care and support of some of the school’s pupils, families and staff.  

Pupils of all ages walked a number of miles every day from 14-18 September.

“Even the youngest pupils at three years of age got involved, walking an astounding two miles over five days,” said headteacher Carol Macy.

“The school’s eldest pupils in Years 5 and 6 walked a staggering 15 miles in total.

“It was wonderful to see the whole school out and about, being active for such a good cause, with many raising money for both hospitals through sponsor forms.”

On Saturday, 19 September, many staff members embarked on a challenge of their own, walking 40 miles in a day along the beautiful coastal path from Aberporth to Aberystwyth. 

Five members of staff started at 6am from Aberporth, walking in the dark and rain. 

“The challenging terrain and raw beauty of the Ceredigion coast made for a long and arduous day, but morale was high,” Mrs Macy added.

“Other staff members joined the walk at New Quay, Aberaeron, Llanrhystud and Rhydyfelin, and even had a much-needed delivery of sweets at Llanon from a pupil from the reception class! 

“It was team effort, with lots of laughter and encouragement throughout the long day.  

“The tired and weary staff finally got back to school at 11.30pm with two amazing members of staff walking the whole 40miles!”
