A LLANGYBI schoolboy will soon see a label he helped design on milk bottles in shops and supermarkets across Wales.
Narberth-based Organic Dairy Co-operative Calon Wen recently held a competition for pupils in primary schools within the catchment area of its farms across Wales.
The task was to design a label to be printed on a limited run of Calon Wen’s 2L semi-skimmed milk cartons.
Dai Miles, director and founder member of Calon Wen, said: “We were delighted to offer this opportunity to the schools because as farmers it is important to us that children understand where food comes from.
“It continues to surprise us when we hear statistics like one in five children don’t know that cows produce the milk that they drink! Also important for us is that the children know that there is a Calon Wen farm producing organic milk on their doorstep”.
Children were given background information about Calon Wen along with a picture of Moula, the face of Calon Wen from which to draw inspiration.
Over 300 entries were received which in turn were whittled down to a short-list of seven.
Following a very popular Facebook vote, and in consultation with the Calon Wen members, the winner was Andrew Davies, a Year 4 pupil at Ysgol y Dderi, Llangybi.
