Up to five new food and drink outlets could appear on Aberystwyth promenade this summer under trial proposals.
Since the long-running dispute between Ceredigion County Council and PD’s Diner over exclusivity rights to the town’s promenade was resolved last year, the council has begun to form plans on how to maximise income from one of Aberystwyth’s main attractions.
While new licences will not be in place until 2020 until a full report is finalised, an interim report has suggested a number of proposals to “trial” various schemes this summer.
The report, set to go before the council’s thriving communities overview and scrutiny committee tomorrow, outlines five areas of the prom where new food and drink outlets will be allowed to operate in a bid to bring in thousands of pounds of extra income to the council.
Plans are also in the works to allow similar outlets to operate on other council land including Plascrug Avenue and the castle shelters, while the council also wants to give permission for one licence on each of the town’s beaches to sell ice creams.
