A PETITION calling for traffic-calming measures at an accident blackspot that is a “fatality waiting to happen” in Llanbadarn has been submitted to Ceredigion County Council.
It calls on the council to investigate safety measures to be implemented on Primrose Hill “due to the spate of traffic collisions along with a number of near misses and a number of reported incidents that have involved school children using the route,” Llanbadarn councillor Paul James – who started the petition, said.
Cllr James handed in the petition – which has gathered hundreds of signatures, to Cllr Lynford Thomas, county council chairman on Friday.
Cllr James decided to start the petition after a spate of incidents on the road, including one schoolboy suffering a dislocated ankle after he was hit by a car. He said there are major concerns in the area about safety, especially as it has been designated as a ‘Safe Route to School’.
Young Oisin Morris suffered a dislocated ankle after he was hit by a car in April 2016 – while several traffic collisions have occurred in recent years, including one crash where a car ended up resting against the wall of a house just moments after pedestrians were walking on the pavement.
Cllr James said: “The reason for setting up this petition has been due to the increase in traffic flow and further projected traffic flow that may occur if further housing development goes ahead on the hill, this with possible increasing dangers in relation to speeding.
“But more importantly due to the spate of traffic collisions along it, with a number of near misses and a number of reported incidents that have involved pedestrians and school children using this route."
