RESIDENTS living along the B4342 at New Quay and Gilfachreda have enlisted the support of Ceredigion MP Mark Williams in their campaign to get drivers to kill their speed.
Mr Williams, who attended two site visits at different locations on Friday morning, was told of fears that a fatal accident would happen if traffic-calming measures were not put in place.
While giving both groups his backing, Mr Williams criticised Ceredigion County Council officers for deciding against a site meeting.
“I hope the message will go to the county council that this is a live issue and that an awful lot of people in this area are very concerned,” he told residents.
“Despite this, there seems to be a reluctance to come and chat, and I am sad about that. The council felt a site meeting was unnecessary – it is necessary so we will just have to persevere.”
The site visits were held at Schooner Park just outside New Quay and at Gilfachreda. At Schooner Park, Mr Williams was told how vehicles regularly exceeded the speed limit emerging from New Quay in the direction of Gilfachreda.
“I’ve lived here for 38 years and the problem seems to be caused by vehicles hitting a dip just before Quay West,” resident Dick Smith told the Cambrian News.
