Ceredigion residents have raised almost £35,000 for charity by opening their gardens to the public.

They opened their spectacular green spaces up to visitors through the National Garden Scheme, and the total amount raised this year – a staggering £34,121.34 - is a 36 per cent increase on 2025, and more than double what was raised in 2024.

Over 4,000 visitors enjoyed the 22 open gardens, including six new ones.

Not only did they enjoy being in the outdoors, appreciating other people’s gardening, but their visits enables a great deal of good. The NGS supports Marie Curie, Macmillan

Cancer Support, Hospice UK, Carers Trust, The Queen’s Nursing Institute, Parkinson’s UK, National Botanical Garden of Wales Apprenticeships, Maggie’s, Horatio’s Garden, Community Gardens and more.

“Huge thanks go to the garden owners, helpers and cake makers for their hard work during the year,” a scheme spokesperson said.

“Your positivity and enthusiasm are unfailing and greatly appreciated.

“What a great way to spend a few hours enjoying the outdoors and savouring the very different gardens, situations and plantings especially this year when gardens had to cope with everything the challenging weather threw at them.

“Next year, 2027, marks the centenary of the National Garden Scheme, and more gardens have joined the initiative in readiness for next year, so look out for the yellow signs near you!

“Information will be published early in the year for you to plan your 2027 visits, and please do visit those ‘Open by Arrangement’, which just require a quick phone call or on-line booking to set up a mutually convenient time and date.”

They added: “It’s never too late to open your garden! You can open as a ‘pop-up’ or hold an NGS Garden Party. Just get in touch with the county organisers to find out more.”
