To mark the 10th anniversary of the Ceredigion Youth Council, nine young people and four members of staff embarked on a remarkable visit to Patagonia,
Funding for the Argentina trip came from Taith, the Welsh Government's international learning exchange programme.
The visit, which lasted 10 days, brought together both current and former youth council members, providing a unique opportunity to explore the rich culture, history and enduring legacy of the Welsh pioneers who arrived in Patagonia aboard the Mimosa, the ship that carried the first Welsh settlers to Puerto Madryn, in 1865.
They also travelled to Trelew and Gaiman, two towns that still remain at the heart of Welsh heritage in Argentina, where early settlers established thriving communities and preserved many aspects of Welsh culture, language and tradition.

Reflecting on the experience, Interim Youth Work and Engagement Manager, Gavin Witte, said "This inspiring visit gave young people a life-changing opportunity to connect with the people, culture and landscape of Patagonia. The experiences, friendships and kindness shared by the local community are memories they will carry with them for the rest of their lives."
Ela, a young person who took part in the visit, added "This has been a fantastic trip. I've learned that the Welsh language remains at the heart of communities in places such as Gaiman and Trelew. I would like to thank Ceredigion Youth Service and the staff for providing such an incredible experience."
As Ceredigion Youth Council celebrates a decade of empowering young people to have their voices heard, the Patagonia visit represents a fitting milestone. It honours the shared history between Wales and Patagonia while inspiring young people to embrace new cultures, perspectives and opportunities.
