Madam,
I no longer live Aberystwyth but have an active interest in all that is happening, in particular the use of public space.
With regard to the wonderful space taken up by the maze, I wrote to the council with a suggestion for an alternative use: vegetable plots.
This could be a space for charity organisations to meet in a café to pool together their aspirations, and for their clients who could be supported to move forward in their lives and at the same time, care for vegetable plots.
I got a response; which was that a café would impact on local trade.
Moving on, and as an eternal optimist, I am writing again to ask the residents of Aberystwyth to look to how we can protect our planet.
There are many ideas, on a national and international level, for instance less use of plastic and how to reduce the pollution of the oceans or in farming and fisheries - having a radical think of how we take back the commercial drives that are destructive to our land.
Aberystwyth is blessed with a university and hundreds of students. I am certain they are putting their minds to the protection of the earth.
So how about using this beautiful space in the centre of town to combine town and gown as a focus to be proactive at a local level to protect our Earth.
