The winner of a Christmas card photography competition has been announced, after community organisation received many “astounding” entries.
In September, Pentir Pumlumon launched their annual Christmas photography competition, with the theme of ‘A Different Way’, to find a “fabulous” photo for their 2021 Christmas card.
Dorry Spikes has been announced as the winner, with an “atmospheric image taken whilst gazing at the stars”.
Dorry said: “The photo was taken last new year in the snow, up near the mine on the top look, between Ysbyty and Pontrhydygroes.
“We’ve been celebrating the dark sky status of the area and going on oil-lamp lit walks.”
Dorry has won a night away at Cambrian Trees Huts in Ysbyty Ystwyth, donated by Adam Lionel and Jane Evans.
Community and tourism development officer for Pentir Pumlumon Tanya Friswell said: “As always, the quality and quantity of the entries received was astounding. People love to take photos and they put a lot of thought and imagination into them.
“We’re fortunate to live in such a beautiful photogenic area! Our annual photography competition is a wonderful way to celebrate the diverse scenery, and to view the world through other people’s eyes. Dorry’s photo will now be used on Pentir Pumlumon’s Christmas Card.
“We also love to share a selection of the entries on our Social Media pages for people to enjoy.”
Tanya added: “Dorry is a local artist who actually lives in Ysbyty Ystwyth, so she won’t have far to go to claim her prize. She thought that the hut was beautiful, and very cosy, she’s looking forward to doing some more stargazing from the hot tub.”
Pentir Pumlumon is a voluntary non-profit group who wish to improve the economy and community in the uplands of Ceredigion.
Tanya continued: “In 2000 an enterprising group of local business owners decided to get together to create ‘Pentir Pumlumon’, a not-for-profit community organisation designed to support and improve our communities for the benefit of both locals and tourists alike.
“The organisation has endured where others have failed, and has gone from strength to strength. They promote collaboration and team work, and have created a large network of like-minded business owners across the Upland area of Ceredigion.
“Despite the trials and tribulations of Covid, Pentir Pumlumon is coming to the end of 2021 in an even stronger position. Our new website, which was launched in August, is proving to be a huge success, and is attracting more and more businesses who want to be listed.
“We offer free website listings to businesses affiliated to tourism in North Ceredigion and would love to hear from you, for more information contact [email protected].”
