School garden

YSGOL Gymunedol Cilcennin community school has scooped Tai Ceredigion’s prize for the best school garden.

The garden competition, which Tai Ceredigion runs across the county each year, has categories for Tai Ceredigion tenants and local schools with the Cilcennin school winning top marks this year with judging taking place in July.

Headteacher Geoff Davies said: “We were extremely proud to receive first prize in this competition.

“It is a credit to all the hard work put in by the pupils, staff and the support of the community.

“The Trefhedyn Garden Centre vouchers will certainly come in handy for next year’s gardening projects.”

Sue Thomas, the tenant participation adviser at Tai Ceredigion, said: “Cilcennin Primary School’s garden was just lovely.

“The judge, Roger Spencer, of Trefhedyn Garden Centre, and I were very impressed with the different sections with areas to sit and enjoy the beautiful plans, shrubs and flowers, but also the kitchen garden, where the children grow lots of fruit and vegetables.

“The polytunnel was a bit of a surprise hidden behind the school.

“Everyone involved deserves top marks.”
