Rotary Club

LAST week was president Tim Chilton’s first business meeting in charge.

He started by welcoming and introducing the guest for the evening, District Governor Bob Maskall from The Rotary Club of Bangor.

First on the agenda was youth; it was agreed to continue the practice of sending one pupil from Llanidloes High School on a RYLA course, as well as supplying Dictionary 4 Life’s to local Primary Schools.

Steve Cox and Tim agreed to represent the club at the district fun games in Chester on 8 September.

John Sheppard confirmed that they now had three sponsors in place for the annual bonfire and fireworks event which will be held on Tuesday, 5 November; they are: Morris Marshall & Poole, Llanidloes Town Council and Llani Leisure.

Mike Catley spoke regarding Guide Dogs for the Blind, saying everything was in place with the Happy Dog Day Walk in Kennel Field on Saturday, 10 August, as is the Promise Auction in the Rugby Club on Saturday, 14 September.

Finally John Cradduck spoke regarding the Llani 10k Run, Walk or Crawl which is taking place on Sunday, 13 October, in aid of Llanidloes High and Primary School.

Following an excellent meal in the Red Lion Hotel, president Tim Chilton introduced and welcomed Rod Evans from Llandinam, who is the immediate past president of the Rotary Club of Newtown.

Following that Michael Evitts introduced the two speakers for the evening: Rotarians Pam and Kristie Norris from ‘Not Just Travel’, who spoke of their journey from Kent to Wales, and how they diverging into event management.

Tim thanked them both for a most interesting talk.

John Selwyn Smith then spoke on his Guide Dogs for the Blind project, saying that he know has over 40 gifts for the Rotary Promise Auction in the rugby club of Saturday, 14 September.

Also he needs three more marshals for the Happy Dog Day Walk from Kennel Field on Saturday, 10 August.

John Sheppard then spoke of next week’s tour of the Elan Valley Dams, following this they are eating at the Triangle Inn.

Guide dog walk

THE walk, in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind, which was cancelled due to storm Hannah in April has been rescheduled for Saturday, 10 August, starting and finishing in Kennel Fields at 10am.

Entry is just £5 per dog or free entry if your dog is sponsored for more than £5 by your friends and family. Your dog will need to be on a lead as the 6km route is on public roads and footpaths passing sheep.

A route map will be supplied and your dog will get a rosette and treats when you finish the walk.

Sponsor forms are available from Woosnam & Davies, Llanidloes, Llanidloes Rotary Club and other locations. If you were sponsored for the last walk, hang onto your sponsorship form and money and bring it with you on the day.

Bring the sponsor form with you so they can see how much you have raised and help John Selwyn Smith reach his target of £10,000 to train a guide dog puppy.
