ON 3 December 2018, Llanwnnen WI members convened at Capel y Groes Vestry for a short business meeting before enjoying a social evening organized by the president, Carol Thomas. Members competed in a Christmas quiz, solved anagrams based on Christmas and enjoyed singing Carols with Ceinwen Roach on the organ. Refreshments were served with the mulled wine prepared by Ann Hughes.

The monthly competition was held, namely a colourful Christmas card, and the winner was Shân Lewis, with Carol and Ceinwen in second and third places respectively. On 10 January, the annual Christmas dinner was held at Vale of Aeron, Felinfach and a tasty three-course meal was enjoyed by all. Carol was announced as winner of the 2018 monthly competitions and was presented with a voucher. At the end of the evening, the president gave the vote of thanks and extended a special thank you to Ann for making the arrangements for the dinner.

Nataliya Roach, a natural healer, was invited to the meeting held on 4 February at Capel-y-Groes Vestry and gave an enlightening talk on reiki and energy healing, including colour healing and how wearing clothes of a certain colour helps to re-balance the body’s energy. She then demonstrated her technique on each member.

During the business meeting that followed, the 2019-20 programme was arranged and many new and varied ideas were proposed. The 70th anniversary of Llanwnnen WI was also discussed and a decision was taken to hold a celebratory dinner in April. At the end of the evening, the monthly competition was held, namely a pretty make-up bag, adjudicated by Nataliya, with the winner being Mary Davies, with Avril Jones in second place and Ceinwen in third place. The evening’s raffle was won by Alice Davies.

Before departing, everybody enjoyed a cup of tea and the president thanked Nataliya for an informative evening. The 70th anniversary dinner of Llanwnnen WI will be held at noon at Cegin Gareth on Wednesday, 10 April. The guest speaker will be Ann Jones, vice-chairman of NFWI. Past and present members are welcome. Names to Carol Thomas 01570 480239 by Friday, 29 March.
