THE programme was varied for May and members did not meet, as per usual, in the village on the first Monday evening of the month.

Instead, they dressed up and went to the garden party that was being organised by the Federation at TyGlyn Hotel, on Tuesday evening, 7 May.

An enjoyable evening was spent looking for bargains among the stalls, playing croquet on the lawn, competing in the best hat competition, listening to musical and literary performances and savouring a tasty meal.

No formal meeting was held that evening but the monthly competition, namely a paper weight, was adjudicated with Shan Lewis being the winner.

Monday afternoon, 3 June, members once again went gallivanting, but did not stray far from the village.

They visited the alpacas kept by Emma Bird and her husband in the village of Blaencwrt and received a very warm welcome.

They spent time walking in the fields and were fortunate enough to see a young alpaca that had been born a few days previously.

They learnt about the care needed by the animals and the use made of their wool.

Emma also gave a spinning demonstration and showed the range of items she makes and sells.

A short business meeting was then conducted and Emma adjudicated the monthly competition, namely a handbag.

The winner was Alice Davies, with Gwen Davies and Shan Lewis in second and third places respectively.

Before departing, a cup of tea and cake was enjoyed by all.

The next outing will be on Monday afternoon, 1 July when members will be visiting the productive gardens of fruits, vegetables and flowers at Yr Efail, Llanio.
