LLANWNNEN WI met at Capel-y-Groes Vestry on Monday evening, 9 April.

Tracy Jones from Llanllwni had been invited to this evening to show the colourful bracelets that she makes.

It was obvious that she has a creative mind and has a great deal of patience to create attractive jewellery.

A practical session followed with members enjoying the opportunity to make a bracelet each.

At the end of the evening, Tracy adjudicated the monthly competition, namely the prettiest trinket box.

Ceinwen Roach won the first prize, with Avril Jones in second place and Shan Lewis in third place.

Tracy was also kind enough to donate a bracelet for the evening’s raffle and Avril Jones was fortunate to win.

The following month the branch met on 14 May, and after conducting a short business meeting, Mererid Jones, waste projects and engagement officer for Ceredigion County Council gave a presentation on the Authority’s recycling and waste collection systems.

The evening proved to be both interesting and beneficial and everybody learnt a great deal about what waste we can and cannot recycle, e.g. crisp packets cannot be placed in recycling bags - they should be placed in black bags.

Rubber gloves, tablet strips and grease-proof paper should also be placed in black bags.

Learning about our waste’s journey through the recycling processes, the financial savings that have been achieved as a result of changing the strength of recycling bags as well as learning about the county’s recycling targets and the final goal to recycle everything, ensuring that nothing goes to landfill, was an eye-opener for us all.

Before the end of the evening the monthly competition was held, namely ‘an item with spots’ and Mererid had the honour of adjudicating the various items.

The competition was won by Shan Lewis, with Carol Thomas in second place and Rose Bull in third place.

The evening’s raffle was won by Doris Davies and Avril Jones gave the vote of thanks.

In June the members will be going on their summer trip.
