Mach Maethlon
MACH Maethlon meets every Wednesday at 2pm outside the Plas for an hour or two of planting, weeding and chatting. No gardening experience necessary.
The group’s Clwb Coginio met at the local bowling club for an interesting session with chef Jeanette Gray when, on Friday, 25 May, everyone enjoyed making Sag Aloo with wild nettles and baby potatoes to put a seasonal Welsh spin on this classic side dish

GERDDI Bro Gardens co-ordinator Angela Paxton has a full programme planned for the summer at the Plas, Cae Glas-based gardens.
Tuesday, 19 June, herbs for wellbeing with Amanda Dean; Tuesday, 26 June, blossoms and elderflower champagne with Jade Mellor; Tuesday, 3 July, mindfulness in the garden with Siwan Morris; Saturday, 7 July, meadow celebration day with Dyfi Donkeys; Thursday, 26 July (provisional), meadow scything open day.
Bowls News
MONTGOMERYSHIRE CBA seniors’ team, including Machynlleth’s John Astley, Alwyn Jones, Kevin Jones, Brendan Rogers and David Rowlands, outshone their Welsh County Championship colleagues, who suffered a heavy 169-91 defeat to Monmouthshire on Machynlleth’s Llynlloedd green, made a bright start to this season’s campaign with a recent 109 shots to 83 victory over Mid Wales CBA seniors at Newtown.
Bowls
DEFENDING their Montgomeryshire County League Division One title and, even at this early stage, chasing their 32nd championship-winning season, secured six points from an 18-shot victory at Welshpool (one point) on Thursday, 24 May.
Meanwhile, in division two of the Montgomeryshire County League, Maglona (1.5 points) put up a strong performance before they lost by four shots to visitors Maesydre (5.5 points).
Machynlleth ladies were also on the wrong side of a very close score line when, on 22 May, they suffered a three-shot defeat at home to Newtown in the ladies’ county league, collecting two points to Newtown’s seven.
However the ladies have made a good start to their mid-week county league campaign, beating Carno (13-10) and Guilsfield (16-14) before conceding an 11-17 defeat to Cegidfa.
Civic Society
MEMBERS of the Machynlleth and District Civic Society met at the Tabernacle Machynlleth for their AGM on 24 May.
However, due to circumstances beyond the control of members present, they were not able to proceed and, in order for progress to be made, rearranged the meeting for Thursday, 21 June, at 7pm.
Chairperson Margaret Vince said: “It is extremely important that we have a good attendance at the Tabernacle in three weeks’ time as there are significant matters to discuss.”
U3A
DYFI Valley U3A welcome guest speaker Anna Hallett, to this month’s meeting at the Bowling Club on Friday, 20 July, 2pm with a talk entitled ‘Paying on the Nail in the Shambles’ .
Concert
WITH proceeds towards the Friends of the Tabernacle, Eirian Owen’s music pupils will hold a concert at the Tabernacle, Heol Penrallt, on Friday, 22 June at 7pm.
