ROAD safety concerns outside a Blaenau Ffestiniog school could be addressed soon after Gwynedd Council accepted there were issues.
Blaenau Ffestiniog town councillor Rory Francis had raised concerns over Ysgol Maenofferen at a meeting and met with a highways official and town council and school representatives.
Cllr Francis said there are concerns about youngsters walking to school along a narrow road going past the school as cars currently park on the road while other cars are driving past.
In the meeting, it was suggested that double yellow lines, speed bumps or a 20mph speed zone could help the situation by the school, and Cllr Francis said he was satisfied that Gwynedd Council was taking the concerns seriously.
He said: “It was a very positive meeting. Everyone accepts there is a problem. There are three possible suggestions, one of which is putting double yellow lines on the narrow road passing the school, as at the moment people park there and you have parents and kids walking around there, as well as parked cars and moving cars. Double yellow lines would mean drivers and pedestrians would be able to see each other better.”
While the three proposals have been put forward, Cllr Francis said it would take time for any of them to be able to be put in place.
A Gwynedd Council spokesperson said: “An officer from the council’s traffic team recently attended a meeting to discuss various possible road safety measures near Ysgol Maenofferen.
“It was a constructive meeting and council officers will now be carrying out a detailed assessment to consider what improvements can be introduced and whether there will be a need to identify external funding to deliver an element of the possible options.”
