Miles of tailbacks south of Aberystwyth have been causing traffic chaos this week, with delays set to last until October.
The large queues on one of the main routes into and out of Aberystwyth are being caused by traffic lights on Llanfarian bridge while maintenance work is carried out.
The lights caused tailbacks during rush hour on Monday morning and evening, with the scene repeated on Tuesday morning as the Cambrian News went to press, with frustrated motorists reporting delays of nearly an hour as traffic backed up.
The tailbacks were exacerbated on Tuesday morning when a second set of traffic lights was installed in Rhydyfelin.
The two-way lights, on the A487 at Llanfarian, were installed on Monday, 16 September, and have been erected while a Welsh Government-funded maintenance of the bridge in Llanfarian takes place.
Work is not scheduled to finish until Friday, 4 October, meaning motorists are set to face another three weeks of long delays.
The lights caused major delays to key bus routes, with First Cymru, which operates the T1 service between Aberystwyth and Carmarthen, reporting buses were running more than 30 minutes behind schedule on Monday.
Traffic is also set to swell on the A487 at the end of the week, with Aberystwyth University students returning to the institution from Friday onwards.
