TRIBUTES have been paid to a “fantastic husband”, “brilliant father” and “loving friend” who tragically died after his council road sweeping vehicle was involved in a crash near Aberystwyth on Friday afternoon.
Roy Evans, 55, passed away after the council vehicle he was driving crashed at the bottom of Cefn Llan hill at the junction with Primrose Hill, Llanbadarn Fawr, at around 1pm.
Mr Evans had worked for Ceredigion County Council for more than 25 years.
Dyfed-Powys Police said the incident did not involve any other vehicles, but continue to appeal for witnesses to the incident.
An area of wall that runs along Primrose Hill remained cordoned off by police on Monday, and the cause of the crash is not yet known.
In a statement, Mr Evans’ family said he “was liked and loved by a lot of people”.
“As a family we are devastated,” they said. “He was a fantastic husband and a brilliant father and a loving friend.
“He will be missed.”
Ceredigion council chief executive Eifion Evans said: “Roy was well-liked, respected and popular and will be sorely missed.”
Mr Evans added: “We extend our deepest sympathies to Roy’s family, friends and colleagues.
“He proudly served his community through his work for the council for over 25 years.
“We are very grateful to him for his service over the years.”
Flags on council buildings were flown at half-mast in memory of Mr Evans, who was a former pupil of Aberaeron secondary school.
