SINGER Dewi Pws has launched a new song to celebrate this year’s St David’s Day Parade.
Dewi launched Cân y Parêd (meaning The Parade Song) at Ysgol Cymerau, Pwllheli on Tuesday.
Dewi has written and composed the song especially for the 2017 Parêd Dewi Sant Pwllheli that will be held this year on Saturday, 25 February, at 11am, with all participants to arrive at the car park at Swyddfa Ardal Dwyfor, Embankment Road, Pwllheli by 10.30am.
All schools in the Dwyfor area have received an information pack from Cymdeithas Parêd Dewi Sant Pwllheli committee which includes the song that is sung by Dewi Pws and Bryn Fôn.
The song was recorded at Stiwdio’r Drwm, Llanllyfni with the help of Ifan Jones from the band Candelas.
The aim is to encourage the children from the area to sing the song during the parade and also at the end on the Maes.
On the Maes, a Stomp Dewi Sant singing competition will be held between all the children from the primary schools that feed into the local secondary schools.
Children from the secondary schools are also encouraged to sing with them.
Thereafter, the audience will vote by going to stand by a red, white or green flag that will each represent one of the three secondary schools.
The winners will receive the Clod y Parêd cup to be held for a year at the secondary school.
“As someone who has moved to Pen Llyn to live, I am delighted to be able to contribute to the success of Parêd Dewi Sant Pwllheli, and I sincerely hope the song will be a great way to encourage local children to appreciate the local Welsh culture and language which is so important to this part of Wales.” said Dewi.
