Staff and pupils at Llanidloes High School are “absolutely delighted”, its headteacher has said, after being ranked in the top 10 state schools in Wales for a second successive year.

Llanidloes High School was ranked 10th in the top performing schools in Wales list, revealed in Parent Power, The Sunday Times Schools Guide 2019, published last Sunday.

Llanidloes saw 59.4 per cent of A-level results at grades A*-B, with 16.9 per cent of GCSE results at grades A*/A/9/8/7.

“We are especially pleased to see our sixth form once again receiving national recognition,” headteacher Dan Owen told the Cambrian News.

“It is little wonder that our vibrant sixth form is growing, with students travelling from far and wide to access the caring, close-knit, supportive and high-quality learning environment.

“We have a strong history of supporting students to achieve places at Oxford, Cambridge and many other Russell Group universities.

“This year, we are possibly unique in Wales in being able to say that every single student was awarded a place in their first choice university, a feat rarely matched by fee-paying independent schools.

“We will continue to ensure our sixth-formers have an open door to world-class higher education when they leave us for pastures new.”
