A woman from Tremadog has been recognised for her volunteer work.

Eirian Farrell, who assists Gwynedd Council’s Road Safety team, has won a national Road Safety Wales award for her contribution over the years.

She began volunteering with Gwynedd Council’s Road Safety team to hold Kerbcraft sessions at Ysgol y Gorlan, Tremadog in 2010 when her son was a pupil in Year 1.

Congratulating her on the award, Cllr Gareth Griffith, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet member for environment matters said: “It’s great to see recognition for Eirian’s valuable contribution to the Road Safety service.

“Many congratulations to Eirian and thanks for the years of service.”

Shirley Williams, an officer at the Road Safety Unit, noted: “We appreciate the fact that it is usual for parents to volunteer while their child is taking part in the training, but Eirian has continued to volunteer to this for the benefit of other children in the school.

“Eirian’s selfless efforts are a great help to the road safety work at the school.

“She is always punctual and reliable and arrives with a big smile to greet the children.

“She is very popular with all the children and is highly respected by the staff of the school and all the staff of the Unit.

“Eirian always goes the extra mile; she is committed and goes beyond all parental duty calls and has contributed so much to this road safety initiative.”
