GOVERNORS of an Aberystwyth secondary school have named an interim headteacher while it continues its search for a permanent head.

Ysgol Penweddig has named current deputy head Rhian Bowen-Morgan as an interim headteacher to take over from retiring Gwenallt Llwyd Ifan from September this year.

The Penweddig decision was taken after the governing body decided to postpone appointing a permanent headteacher.

Mark Rees, the chair of the governing body, said governors were pleased to be able to appoint Ms Bowen-Morgan as an interim headteacher.

He said: “Following the announcement of the retirement of our headteacher Gwenallt Llwyd Ifan at the end of August, the governing body began the process to find a suitable replacement headteacher.

“Following a rigorous shortlisting process and in accordance with the robust selection criteria adopted by the governing body it was decided to postpone the appointment of a permanent replacement headteacher.

“On a temporary basis the governing body are very pleased that Rhian Bowen-Morgan, our current deputy headteacher, has agreed to be acting headteacher from September 2018.

"Ms Bowen-Morgan has the full support of the governing body, school staff and LEA in the acting headteacher role as we continue the process of seeking the appointment of a permanent headteacher.”
