DOZENS of schoolchildren finally returned to their school this week after a river burst its banks and flooded the building nearly two months ago.
Approximately 50 children were forced to relocate to a business centre after their primary school was washed out.
Following downpours on the Llyn Peninsula, the river adjacent to Ysgol Pont y Gof, Botwnnog, burst its banks and devastated the lower section of the school on 22 November.
Around half of the school’s attendees have had to be taught at the nearby Congl Meinciau business centre which opened its doors to the stricken pupils.
Speaking to the Cambrian News, Ysgol Pont y Gof headteacher Bethan Prys Jones, said: “The staff and children are excited to be back at Ysgol Pont y Gof and it’s great to have all the children together in the same building again.
“We are all very pleased with the work that has been done and we’re looking forward to the new term.
“We are so grateful to everyone who has helped us make sure the children can carry on with their work and that the school can get back on its feet – the parents and governors, the wider community, the workers who repaired and cleaned the site, and of course Congl Meinciau for allowing us to use their facilities at such short notice.”
