THE CONTROVERSIAL shake-up of Bala schools is set to be finalised next week.
On Tuesday, 10 April, Gwynedd Council’s Cabinet will meet to consider a recommendation to implement the proposal to establish a Welsh Medium 3-19 Learning Campus, community status, on the current Ysgol y Berwyn site to open on 1 September 2019.
This follows an objection period held between 26 February and 26 March on the proposal to reorganise schools in the Berwyn catchment area.
Gwynedd Council will press on with plans to replace three existing schools but opposition from parents and governors means the new site will not have religious status as previously agreed.
If the Cabinet supports this recommendation, the council will proceed to the next stage of the statutory process, namely establishing the school as an entity, firstly by establishing the shadow governing body during the summer term.
Cllr Gareth Thomas, Cabinet member for education said: “As a council, we are committed to ensuring the provision of world class education for the children and young people of the Berwyn catchment area.
“The £10.27 million investment jointly funded by Gwynedd Council and the Welsh Government, will ensure that children in the area are educated on a modern site that provides a 21st century learning environment.”
