Pupils at Ysgol Bro Idris are taking part in yoga sessions as part of their daily timetable.
Nursery-aged pupils up to Year 7 at the Dolgellau school receive regular intervals during the day to the relax the body and mind.
Gareth Roberts, the deputy headteacher at Ysgol Bro Idris, who introduced the intervention at the School, said: “Our teachers provide very effective opportunities for pupils to relax their bodies and minds at the beginning of sessions during the day.
“This helps them to forget about any worries they may have and enables them to concentrate clearly on their learning.
“The children thoroughly enjoy these sessions, and they get the opportunity to lead some of the sessions on various sites.”
The school has already seen in a difference in behaviour patterns, less tension during and after break times, and all-round improvement in pupils’ concentration levels.
One pupil at the Dinas Mawddwy site, said that “I feel like an emptied bin” after taking part in the yoga session.
Another pupil at the Dolgellau site stated that he felt “reborn” by having the opportunity to relax and reflect.
Peter Kay, who works for Gwylan, the company that created the Resource, said: “PausePoints punctuate each day with transferrable Wellbeing skills, equally effective at home and at School.
“By taking part in these daily sessions on various sites the children get the chance to de-stress, build resilience, improve their focus and engage fully in their learning.”
Sian Melangell Dafydd (pictured), a well-known author, poet and yogi, visited each site to give the pupils a yoga session and to discuss the benefits of doing yoga.
