Aberystwyth artist Jonah Evans is about to embark on his first solo show of lino prints in Pwllheli’s Plas Glyn y Weddw.

‘Patterns in Nature and Legends’ starts on 11 October.

Highly Commended in the prestigious Eirian Llwyd Memorial Award in 2025, printmaker Jonah’s exhibition brings together new and recent work.

Working primarily in lino, often at an ambitious scale, Jonah creates visually striking prints that combine bold mark-making, intricate detail and a strong sense of graphic composition.

The natural world is a recurring source of inspiration, with birds featuring prominently throughout his practice. Alongside these observations of nature, Evans draws on Welsh folklore and mythology, populating his prints with dragons, beasts and fantastical creatures.

These imagined worlds allow him to explore the expressive possibilities of lino, transforming carved marks, patterns and silhouettes into energetic and atmospheric images.

Jonah’s visual language is rooted in his upbringing on the west coast of Wales, between the sea and mountains, where the landscape, wildlife and cultural traditions continue to inform his work.

After completing a foundation course at Further Education College, Aberystwyth, he studied Fine Art at The University of the West of England, Bristol.

Now based in Bristol, he works part-time as a tattoo artist alongside his fine art practice.

The relationship between the two disciplines is particularly evident in his approach to line, form and design, with his printmaking informing his tattoo work and vice versa.

A member of the Aberystwyth Printmakers, Jonah’s work is held in public collections including the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth University and the University of the West of England, Bristol, as well as private collections in Britain and abroad.

He has recently been commissioned to illustrate a fictional book by published author Joe Treasure, with a selection of these new works included in the exhibition.
