URGENT safety improvements have been demanded on the A487 near Aberystwyth after yet another crash which left two people in hospital and the road being closed.
Local councillor Alun Lloyd Jones has warned again that there could be more fatalities unless action is taken to make the road safer.
He said he had been lobbying for road safety improvements on the road for almost 30 years, but had seen only “minor tinkering” by authorities.
“Blaenplwyf and Chancery road improvements have been priorities on every election leaflet that I have produced since 1989, but all we have had is minor tinkering and a lot of talk. Rhydyfelin and Llanfarian are also in need of safety improvements as soon as possible.
“I have made Welsh AMs and the responsible ministers aware of my very deep concerns, and ideas for improvement over many years, but something must be done now before we have more fatalities and serious incidents."
He added: “Whilst we cannot hope to legislate against idiots, drivers without driving skills and lack of common sense, we can plan for much-needed safety improvements and educating drivers as to the consequences of dangerous and inconsiderate driving.”
