AROUND 50 children are still being taught in a business centre two weeks after their primary school was flooded out.

Following downpours on the Llyn Peninsula, the river adjacent to Ysgol Pont y Gof, Botwnnog, burst its banks and devastated the lower section of the school.

The school was out of action for four school days from Thursday, 23 November until Tuesday, 28 November. And since then around 50 children, half of the school, have had to be taught at a nearby business centre.

Grwp Cynefin, which operates the Congl Meinciau business centre, stepped up to house the children to prevent them from losing any more precious study time than was necessary.

The meeting rooms in the centre have been transformed into temporary classrooms, and meetings that were to take place in Congl Meinciau were relocated to the Village Hall in Sarn or the Canolfan in Nefyn.

Ysgol Pont y Gof headteacher, Bethan Prys Jones, said: “We are so grateful to Congl Meinciau for being so ready to help us as a school.

“They were so quick to allow us to move two classrooms into their building on a temporary basis, and because of this the pupils were able to return to their studies very swiftly.

“The children are settling into the temporary classrooms, but we hope that we’ll all be back on the school site together within a few weeks.”
