I am writing in response to the letter written by Dave Bradney (Letters, 16 April).

I live in Oxfordshire and have seen one of the letters sent by the England NHS that he refers to. To receive one of those letters you have to fall into one of four categories of clinically extremely vulnerable people.

In Ceredigion over 1,500 similar letters have been sent out. People who wish to self-isolate because they feel vulnerable are not getting any extra help from England NHS but rely on friends and family. Here in the village where I live, there are plenty of people who have volunteered to help with shopping and the collection of prescriptions.

Many of the older residents do not have family nearby and are reliant on neighbours. I know that in Ceredigion, the YFC are running similar schemes where they will happily help with shopping and errands.

One thing this pandemic has taught us, is that those who have always been neighbourly and helped others are now being repaid for their kindness. New friendships are being formed and people are getting to know their neighbours again.
