A GRIEVING family are battling to bring a 27-year-old home over a month after he died in China.

Sean O’Mahony, from Blaenau Ffestiniog, was teaching at a primary school in Tangshan, China when he sadly lost his life following an accidental fall from height on 12 December.

The former Ysgol y Moelwyn and Coleg Harlech student was travelling the world after graduating from Huddersfield University.

He was due to fly home just a few days after he died.

Sean, who has been remembered by his brother as a “kind soul who would go out of his way to help anyone and was loving life”, remains in the Far East despite numerous attempts to repatriate his body back to the UK for a funeral.

Jamie O’Mahony, Sean’s brother, has accused the UK’s Foreign And Commonwealth Office (FCO) of offering a “terrible level of support”.

“[Sean’s death] happened in Tangshan, China; which has resulted in a lot of red tape and bureaucracy to deal with,” Jamie told the Cambrian News.

“This has been exacerbated by the lack of support from the relevant authorities - mainly on the British side.

“I really hope to be able to have a fitting funeral as soon as possible, but at the moment it’s a long way off.”

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said it was supporting the family of a British man following his death in China, and are in contact with the Chinese authorities.”

Sean’s friends have set up a crowdfunding page to raise enough money to bring him home. Details can be found at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/seanomahony
