A much-loved Tywyn resident who will spend his 100th birthday in hospital instead of celebrating with friends at the local cinema is looking on the bright side and says he “will still have a memorable party on the ward”.
John Hazzlewood, of National Street, who is hailed as “an incredible local hero”, will celebrate his 100th birthday next Thursday, 13 February.
Mr Hazzlewood had been due to have a party at the Magic Lantern Cinema but instead is in Dolgellau Hospital recovering from a sudden illness.
Despite the setback, Mr Hazzlewood remains positive.
“We are particularly fortunate in having a wonderful cinema here – the Magic Lantern,” Mr Hazzlewood said. “I wish many more supported it.
“On the evening of Saturday, 15 February, I was meant to be at a special event there to which about 100 friends were invited, to celebrate my centenary.
“However, sadly I am in Dolgellau Hospital recovering from an illness, but being very well looked after.
“I am sure I will have a memorable 100th birthday party on the ward with wonderful staff and special friends on Thursday afternoon, 13 February.”
