A children’s health service used by around 90 families at any one time is set to move to a new home in Aberystwyth this month.

Hywel Dda University Health Board’s Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy clinic will relocate from Pantyfedwen on Market Street to Canolfan Rheidol, Rhodfa Padarn.

The move is expected to take place by 12 October, with the lease on the existing Market Street premises coming to an end. The paediatric service will not return to Pantyfedwen under current plans.

The clinic supports children and young people from birth to 18 who have speech, language and communication needs. This includes children with speech and language difficulties, stammering, developmental language disorder and social communication struggles.

The Health Board says the move will not result in any reduction in services, appointments, staffing levels or clinic appointments.

Canolfan Rheidol, which also houses Ceredigion County Council offices, already accommodates a number of health services. The Health Board says the new location will offer improved accessibility, on-site parking and access to public transport, including the T1 and T5 bus routes.

Andrew Carruthers, Chief Operating Officer at Hywel Dda University Health Board, said it was important to reassure families that clinics would continue as normal. He added that families with existing appointments would be contacted if the location, or other details of their appointment changes.

The Health Board is asking children, young people, parents, carers and staff to give their views on the relocation. It said feedback would help identify any potential impact caused by moving the service approximately one mile from its current town-centre location. An anonymous consultation is open until 11 October, with responses accepted online, through paper forms at appointments or by post.
