A former Ysgol Penglais pupil has completed a bungee jump as she aims to raise money for a humanitarian trip to Africa.
Jasmine Shao, a second-year engineering student at Cambridge University who is from Bronant, has been selected to spend 10 weeks in Africa to help improve rural secondary schools and is likely to travel to either Kenya or Uganda as part of her work.
As part of her fundraising efforts as part of the Education Partnerships Africa scheme, Jasmine decided to carry out her first ever bungee jump.
She said: “I have now completed my bungee jump for EPAfrica. It was a very scary experience - I shut my eyes and screamed all the way.
“One of my shoes also flew off half-way.”
As part of her fundraising efforts, Jasmine is aiming for a target of £2,200 with her fundraising site open until 7 October.
She has currently raised almost £900 with that money raised being invested into the school where Jasmine will be working during her visit.
Jasmine has said she was keen to get involved in the EPAfrica scheme as the work the charity does helps improve conditions at the school with long-term solutions to provide necessary facilities.
She said: “EPAfrica appeals to me because it focuses on providing sustainable solutions by providing the school with basic resources.
“Examples of projects carried out by project workers in schools include setting up a library, creation of a laboratory and installation of solar panels.
“Education is one, if not the best, way to help people in poverty to escape from it.”
Anyone who would like to support Jasmine’s fundraising efforts can do so at her fundraising page.
