We have a campervan. It’s only a small VW - no bigger than some of the large four-wheel drive vehicles that park on Aber seafront. However, although we love to stay in it, or go out for a picnic, we would never dream of polluting Aber prom with it, nor any other for that matter, unless there were special provisions for such vehicles.
We’ve been appalled to see the seafront commandeered by vans, especially the massive motorhomes. As well as people spilling out over the promenade with chairs and tables, we have noticed, especially on South Beach, groups of people having malodorous barbecues, the remains of which are just left there, above the tide line.
There are many camping businesses around Aberystwyth and it is doubly offensive to eschew these in favour of free parking.
A four-hour parking limit could be applied, operating 24/7, so that the promenade can be enjoyed by all. After all, there are plenty of car parks around town, none of which is more than 15 minutes walk from the sea.
Some of these motorhomes cost upwards of £50,000 so their owners can surely afford overnight camping fees or car park fees. I was born, bred and schooled in Aber, still spend a great part of my life here, and I hate to see it becoming dirty and sad.
