The life of late Aberystwyth councillor Carl Williams will be remembered at two fundraising events for Marie Curie.
Carl’s daughter Elizabeth wants to raise the money in memory of her father, who was well-known for helping people and raising money for charity.
Two events have been organised to raise the much-needed cash, starting with a quiz at the end of this month and a disco at the start of the next.
Explaining more about the events, Elizabeth said: “There’s a quiz at the Ship and Castle on Thursday, 29 October at 8pm.
“Entry costs £3 and all of the proceeds will go to Marie Curie.
“Then there’s a disco in the day at Aberystwyth Football Club on Saturday, 7 November.”
People can dance the afternoon away from 3pm-8pm. Early Bird tickets for the Old Skool Disco (£4 and a free raffle ticket available up until 31 October) can be bought directly from Liz. DM her or email
[email protected]. Entry for £6 and raffle tickets will also be available on the door on the day.
“For over 40 years, my dad brought light into people's homes as an electrician,” Elizabeth said.
“When he retired in the late 90s, he changed his tools but kept the same mission, becoming a passionate fundraiser for Marie Curie in Wales.
“Among his proudest achievements was founding the Aberystwyth 10k in 1998, a legacy of community and charity that still runs today.
“When dad passed away from prostate cancer in 2019, Marie Curie offered us as a family, invaluable support and advice, so I would like to give something back in his memory.
“Every five minutes someone dies without the care they need. That needs to change.
“Marie Curie Nurses provide hands-on nursing and hospice care, whatever the illness, and also provide a free support line and information on all aspects of dying, death and bereavement.”
