WALES’ oldest artists’ society is holding its annual exhibition in Dolgellau this month.
The Meirionnydd Artists Society (MAS) is the oldest active members’ art society in the country after being established nearly six decades ago in 1958.
The group has a current membership of 60 artists, some professional, some amateur and some new learners, and all will be showcasing their work at Ty Siamas, Eldon Square, Dolgellau, from 20 August to 1 September.
Artist Huw Lewis-Jones was looking forward to the society’s “highlight of the year”.
He said: “The competition theme for the show is ‘wild weather’ and the public are invited to vote for the people’s choice at the exhibition opening on the 20 August at midday. Entry is free and there will be around 140 paintings on show with some real bargains to be had.
"MAS are always looking for new members and support them by organising regular workshops covering different media and genres throughout the year.
"Everyone is welcome to come along, be inspired by the exhibition and join the society. It is a welcoming friendly and inclusive society. All that is needed for membership is a love of art and some creative urge.”
The exhibition will be open from 10am to 5pm.
