CHILDREN in Cardigan now have a new place to have fun after a play area was opened at “Pentop” field.

The project was mainly funded by Cardigan Town Council, with awards from Ceredigion County Council’s Community Grant, Wales & West Housing and the Welsh Government AWPOG (All Wales Play Opportunities Grant to Local Authorities).

Cathryn Morgan, Ceredigion Families First co-ordinator, said: “We receive the AWPOG grant from Welsh Government every year, it isn’t a lot of money and we are therefore very pleased that we are able to support this new play area. The funding goes a lot further when we can work in partnership like this.”

The area was transferred to Cardigan Town Council back in 2014, as part of a Section 106 agreement for the Developer to facilitate the development of a Play Area on this new site.

Since then, an enthusiastic Stakeholder Group has worked on its development.

Project co-ordinator, Cllr Catrin Miles, Teifi Ward, said: “Thanks to everyone who has worked so hard: Town Councillors, Wales & West Housing, Ceredigion County Council, Tai Ceredigion, Small World Theatre, Flying Start, Ray Ceredigion and, of course, residents. Huge thanks also to developer Bob Sheridan for his support and help along the way; to Mike Phillips for preparing access, road and path to the site, draining, levelling and fencing in readiness for play equipment. The Phase 1 work totalled £24,425, shared 50:50 between Cardigan Town Council and CCC’s Community Grant Scheme.”
