ABERYSTWYTH’S newest police cadets have been sworn in and presented with their berets at a ceremony in the town library.

Presented by Chief Constable Simon Price, 10 members of the Aberystwyth Volunteer Police Cadet unit swore the cadet oath and received their reward for 15 weeks of hard work.

The Dyfed-Powys Volunteer Police Cadet scheme was launched on 2 September, with the scheme following the National VPC programme along with 36 other police forces across the UK.

The Dyfed-Powys scheme has four Volunteer Police Cadet units spread across the force area, each run from schools in the Aberystwyth, Ammanford, Newtown and Pembroke areas.

Some of the subjects the cadets have learnt about during the 15 weeks include police response to incidents, rank structure, phonetic alphabet, lost and found property, risk assessments, the origins of law and introduction to first aid.

Cadets received a talk and demonstration from the dog section and will be visiting police headquarters in Carmarthen to see the force control room, meet the chief officers and see how the police support unit works.
