Madam,
I was pleased to see the article in last week’s Cambrian News regarding the fact that almost £5 million of funding has been secured in principle to build a new primary school building in Criccieth. Following concerns regarding the condition of the Ysgol Treferthyr building for some time, we now look forward to developing a brandnew school building for the children of the area.
As your article correctly notes, the report presented to the council Cabinet asked to begin local discussions to include Ysgol Treferthyr and possibly Ysgol Llanystumdwy. These discussions will consider various matters including possible locations and needs of the new school, with the intention of identifying a preferred option that responds to the future education needs of the area.
It is important to emphasise that no decisions have been taken. Whilst last week’s article suggested that Ysgol Treferthyr and Ysgol Llanystumdwy could be merged, the council has not outlined any possible options, let alone a preferred option at this stage. Indeed, the Local Review Panel which will include both schools, depending on the Cabinet decision, will have an important role to play in considering a variety of options for the future.
We now look forward to considering the best way forward and discussing matters as part of the Local Review Panel process.
Yours etc, Garem Jackson, Head of Education, Gwynedd Council.
