ABERYSTWYTH’S two beaches have been honoured in the Coast Awards, although South Beach has again missed out on a coveted Blue Flag award.
North Beach retained its Blue Flag status, as well as winning a Seaside Award.
But while South Beach won a Seaside Award it missed out on the top accolade.
Borth also won a Blue Flag and Seaside Award with Clarach scooping a Seaside Award.
Aberystwyth mayor Steve Davies said while it was disappointing that South Beach did not win a Blue Flag, the Seaside Award and the double win for North Beach was good news for the town.
He said: “The Seaside Award and Blue Flag status puts Aberystwyth as a town, and Ceredigion, high on the tourism trail.
“The Blue Flag award has become a highly respected and recognised qualification, to bring together tourism and environmental sectors at local and regional levels. This award is a combination of criteria, set to improve overall standards.
“The hard work that goes into achieving this standard for Aberystwyth and Ceredigion is greatly appreciated.
“I am sure the disappointment will be felt by all involved, that South Beach did not make the prestigious award.”
Across Ceredigion 13 beaches were honoured in the Coast Awards.
