A bid to demolish five “tired and outdated” seaside holiday rental properties and replace them with “more spacious, higher quality” bungalows has been made.
The Eryri National Park Authority has received an application to knock down the five detached holiday chalets at Dyffryn Ardudwy.
The application for the Dyffryn Seaside Estate has been made by Mr and Mrs Bowater, of the Dyffryn Seaside Estate through the agent Simon Hall, of Simon Hall Architecture.
It calls for the “demolition of existing five detached holiday bungalows and erection of new replacement bungalows”.
The existing properties are single storey, pebble-dashed, and were built in the 1920s.
The planning and design statement within the application notes: “With investments and improvements being made to the Seaside Estate to improve the quality of its facilities and the guest experience, the existing bungalows have for some time appeared rather ‘tired’, outdated, and no longer in-keeping with the direction that the Estate is aiming for in terms of quality accommodation.
“During the design process, consideration was given to the idea of renovating and re-modelling the existing bungalows, though this was eventually deemed infeasible.
“Therefore, the proposal is for the demolition of the existing bungalows, and their replacement with new holiday lodges.”
Among the improvements proposed for the proposed are “more spacious” entrance/hallways through the central part of the bungalows, “more generous” open-plan living/kitchen/dining areas with large sliding or bi-fold doors leading onto private verandas and garden areas, and at least one bedroom with en-suite facilities, plus a shared WC/shower room.
The plans say the style and appearance of the proposed bungalows will follow a shared theme and will “mainly utilise timber cladding, natural stonework, render and natural slates”.
It also notes the new lodges would be “extremely energy efficient, including high levels of insulation and fabric thermal efficiency, together with an air source heat pumps supplemented by solar photovoltaics”.
