CEREDIGION County Council Cabinet members have backed proposals for an Aberaeron beachside kiosk café, which could see either an extended lease for tenants or the facility improved.
The North Beach kiosk, which is near the coastal path, has a small café and public toilets.
The council believes the facility could be enhanced and improved if it puts it up for lease on the open market.
One proposal from the council’s estates section are to either increase the size of the kiosk and offer an extended lease to tenants, who would become responsible for the public toilets and for any repair and maintenance work at the kiosk.
Another option is for the council to keep the facility as it is, but offer an extended lease which would allow tenants to make any improvements they wanted.
Cabinet members agreed to seek expressions of interest.
Economy and regeneration Cabinet member Rhodri Evans said the council had already been approached with suggestions for improving the facility.
Local councillor Elizabeth Evans has said developing the facility would be “very positive” for Aberaeron, especially as the council would retain ownership of the kiosk.
A report that went before Cabinet members said: “In order to test the market and gauge whether the property and location could bring forward redevelopment proposal which would enhance the location, it is recommended that the council advertises the property on the open market inviting expressions of interest.”
