ANY plans for a major housing development on the site of the former Cwmpadarn School would be likely to be opposed by Llanbadarn Fawr councillors, they have said.

Ceredigion County Council has put the former school up for sale for £350,000, but Cllr Gareth Davies and Cllr Paul James have warned that the site has major issues that could see them oppose a housing development.

A major housing development on Primrose Hill has already seen concerns raised about the impact on the road network, flooding problems and the sewerage infrastructure, and Cllr Davies said those same concerns would apply to any potential housing development at the school, but it was too early to say if there would be any interest from developers.

He said: “I think Cllr Paul James and I have made our position on any further housing development taking place in Llanbadarn Fawr very clear.

“Llanbadarn Fawr is already blighted by heavy traffic which gives rise to safety issues of road users, the threat of flooding, the safety of pedestrians with increased traffic flow and over development.

“We simply do not have the infrastructure in place to support any further development in Llanbadarn Fawr.

“During the Ceredigion local authority elections in May this year, many Llanbadarn Fawr residents expressed their concerns to me regarding the possible development of this site and the effect it would have on the eastern side of the village. I know that many local residents will be strongly opposed to any housing development on this site.”
