An auction and the efforts of kind-hearted pupils in Pwllheli have brought plans for a new hockey pitch one step closer.
Pwllheli Hockey Club is in desperate need of a new pitch, but needs to raise £20,000 to pay for it.
Now an auction to raise funds has brought in over £6,000, and pupils at Ysgol Cymerau have raised a further £189.70.
Giving an update of the club’s fundraising efforts, secretary of Pwllheli Hockey Club Miriam Jones, said: “The auction we held was a huge success and raised £6,632 in the end, and we are still getting donations in from local businesses in the area. We also raised £1,290 on our GoFundMe page and it’s still coming in.
“The support has been incredible. The club is so grateful for everyone’s generosity and support. We would like to pass on our thanks to everyone who donated, gave something to the auction, supported the auction and to John Lloyd the auctioneer for holding a great evening at the sport club. We are much closer to our target now and in talks with Sport Wales about the next steps.”
Miriam also said the club’s fundraising efforts went online as a result of extra generosity from the public.
She said: “We had an online auction on Facebook in the lead up to the auction night. As so many items were donated we decided to split some items online and some on the night otherwise the auction on the evening would have gone on for hours.
“It’s lucky we did this as on the night we did get extra donations of hampers etc., and did a raffle on the door then for smaller value items which helped on the night as the entrance fee on the door and raffle brought in £540.
“The total we collected on the night and the online auction has really helped us.
Also the local schools for their support and the local businesses. It has helped us a lot and we are much closer now to our target with donations still coming in.”
